CASH EXPORT FROM OR OVER GERMANY
We receive inquiries how exactly the export of cash is to be handled. We try to explain this briefly and present the customs regulations of Germany and Egypt factually.
Everyone who wants to export more than 10.000€ cash from Germany has to inform the customs in written form. This also applies to equivalent means of payment.
1. This applies to banknotes and coins that are valid means of payment (€), but also for currencies that are no longer valid means of payment, but can still be exchanged for valid means of payment (such as German Mark, Austrian Schillingen).
2. Promissory notes, checks and traveler's checks, shares, money orders (i.e. transferable bearer instruments) and
3. Gold in the form of coins with a gold content of at least 90% and uncoined gold in the form of bars, nuggets or lumps with a gold content of at least 99.5%.
Foreign currencies must be converted at the foreign exchange rate (daily rate) and for collector and bullion coins the basis is not the nominal value but the actual value.
A WRITTEN declaration to customs is required. For this purpose, please use the form 040000 (German version) or the no. 040001 (English version) deposited at customs with the respective supplementary sheet. It is allowed to fill in the form handwritten as well as electronically.
This form has to be presented to the customs office IN WRITING and you can request an official copy for this purpose.
Important!!! When crossing the border, be sure to submit the declaration. It is your duty to present the cash declaration form without being asked.
